Nestled into the iconic Berkeley Hills is the “Nest House.” As with most houses in the Hills, this structure needed a drilled pier foundation and some considerable retaining walls in order to gain support on the hillside. One of the key design elements was a floating flex room supported by steel columns making up multiple moment frames supporting seismic loads in both directions.
